What to do in favor of a smooth recovery after a plastic surgery procedure?
The length of recovery may vary depending on the individual and the type of the procedure performed as well. We can count on physical as well as emotional changes during the time of recovery. Let the natural recovery process take place. In case of a problem, please contact your doctor, immediately. We can serve you with some useful advice here regarding a healthful recovery:
- • Please use ice after the facial operation to reduce swelling. Consult with your doctor how long and in what manner you should apply the ice.
- • Your expectations about the operation should not be unrealistic. Face the fact that you will look worse before you get better. The plastic surgery procedures come along with wounds and swelling, and the final result will not appear until days after the procedure.
- • Follow your surgeon’s advice; let that be the taking of the prescribed medication or something about regular exercise or hygiene. Follow your doctor’s advice in favor of a safe and healthy recovery.
- • Please ask somebody to help you the first 48-72 hours after the procedure. Even if you think that you can continue your everyday duties, have a helping hand whose presence has a calming influence on you and has a beneficial effect on the natural recovery process.
- • Drink plenty of liquids! During the surgical procedure, you lose a great amount of liquids. Frequent water consumption helps you compensate the liquid loss. Eat light foods, especially meals that you can chew and digest easily.
- • If the surgery procedure was performed on your head or on your neck then keep the head held high for a few days. This will reduce the swelling and quicken the recovery without endangering the result.
- • Avoid direct sunlight. Use a protective sun screen cream, to protect your skin.
- • Do not take aspirin or any other inflammation reducing pills, because these could influence the effect of those medications that your surgeon had prescribed for you.
How can you cover or reduce the signs of a plastic surgery procedure during the recovery phase? How and with what can you improve your appearance after the operation?
Several weeks after the plastic surgery your appearance can be less attractive. It is not easy to prepare yourself to go to public places at first, and it is difficult to wait until the new appearance develops. Most of the patients refrain from being seen in public following the surgical procedure. Swelling, wounds, and scars may appear during the recovery but these can be reduced.
The recovery period may last from few days to weeks. During this time, there are several solutions to make the recovery more appealing/acceptable: covering (masking) with make-up, using compression clothes and other accessories. The compression cloth and other accessories are used not only as temporary coverings, but also as vital, necessary tools of recovery following most of the plastic surgery operation.
Your doctor will suggest you use compression clothes and accessories, which you will have to wear for a predetermined amount of time after the operation. Breast surgery patients will be offered special brassiere types, which will have to be worn weeks after the operation. Most of these clothes or brassieres have to be worn continuously, day and night, for at least one week after the operation.
In case of liposuction, stomach and breast surgery the compression cloth and brasseries have to be worn for 24 hours (during showers, too) even for months.
