Labiaplasty |
|
The monolateral or bilateral enlargement of the labia minor may occur on the external genitals mainly as a development abnormality, causing various functional and aesthetic complaints for the patient. Due to the location of the deformation, it often causes serious mental problems, which basically constitutes the main indication of the operation. The essence of labioplasty is that we make the enlargened labia minor symmetric and of the desired size through a correction operation. Besides producing a nice aesthetic result, labioplasty can considerably increase the patient’s self-confidence.
Tasks before the treatment The operation is preceded by an examination performed by the plastic surgeon. After the examination the operating doctor discusses with the patient the possibilities that may influence their decision regarding the operation. At this time the doctor mentions the laboratory tests needed for the operation and any other supplementary examinations (e.g. internal medicine), the methods of anaesthesia applied during the operation, the possible complications, the tasks of home nursing, the phases of recovery, in other words all the information that are necessary for the patient to be able to decide what way of treatment or which operation to choose.
The operation The approximately half-hour-long operation, which is possible to perform under local anaesthesia or short anaesthesia, is recommended to take place in the days following menstruation as this way the wounds have time to heal before the next period. During the operation the unnecessary parts of the labia minor are resected and the created cuts are stitched using very thin needle and thread.
Tasks after the operation 2-3 hours or 10-12 hours after the operation performed under local anaesthesia or anaesthesia, respectively, the patient is released to return to their homes, accompanied by their companion. During this period the physiological functions (blood pressure, bowel movements, urinating) stabilise. The patient must undertake to organise home nursing. It is recommended to follow undemanding lifestyle and relaxation at home. If necessary, it is also recommended to take antibiotics and analgesics. Swelling or discoloration in blue and purple may occur in the operational area, which can be considered a normal post-operational condition. After applying an ice pack for a few days, the haematoma slowly disappear without a sign. The stitches may be removed two or three weeks following the operation. In the period following the operation it is recommended to apply washing with Betadine liquid soap and refrain from sexual activity for 3-4 weeks.
